What to Wear to a Black Tie Work Event
On the weekend, I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Robert Half UK top performer awards at The Grosvenor House.
I'd been told the week before I was invited to this black tie event and I was thrilled! ... and then I remembered I had nothing to wear. (This is a somewhat tragedy for a fashion blogger.)
Thankfully, I had met Bobby at Boudi Fashion in the summer whilst exploring London, so I knew exactly where to get my 'emergency' dress from. He had a little table out the front in the sun, so I'd paused to eat the takeaway sushi I was carrying, and then went in to take a look.
We started last Friday off with a round table discussion about challenges we face when placing a candidate in a job, and how we can support the newbies within our company. It was interesting to hear the word tracks the top UK billers used when handling objections from clients, and the techniques that work well to maintain control over jobs.
Champagne was served with hors d'oeuvres for lunch, followed by a Q & A session, and then we went back to the hotels to get ready. I was staying in The Cumberland which had a lovely room and included a (somewhat life saving) delicious breakfast buffet in the morning.
The evening presentation after dinner felt like something out of the Oscars. My colleague, Clive, presented from a podium on stage with starry lights glistening behind him. Many of my deserving colleagues passed in an array of sequined gowns and three-piece suits collecting their awards.
I know it’s cheesy but as soon as I put on this Pia Michi gown I knew I was wearing it! Perhaps in the past I would have gone for something simplistic, but I felt like this gown maintained understated elegance without looking over the top. The silver metallic neck trailed down into an open, tied back, and blue lace effectively contrasted against the nude underlay. I styled it with a nude Faith clutch from ASOS and patent Aldo heels (not that you could see them with the amazing train!)
It’s fair to say it is now my favourite thing in my wardrobe.
The night was lots of laughs, and involved some ridiculous dancing. Ali Williams from the All Blacks (my fellow kiwi friends will love this) even crashed the party and danced with everyone. He stuck out like a sore thumb as you can imagine - he was so tall! Funnily enough, no one minded he was there haha. If you were keeping up with my antics on my Instagram story; you would have noticed we ended up in Red Bar, and then 30 of us crammed into a hotel room for a little dance party.
Thanks for a truly amazing night Robert Half and my fabulous colleagues! I had so much fun, and thank you Boudi Fashion for my incredible dress!!
