Transitioning into Autumn: Office Fashion Tips
IT'S GOTTEN COLD
I feel like I’m a little delayed with this post since it suddenly got extremely cold here in London… or perhaps I am nice and early for my friends around the rest of the world?
Regardless, office fashion is always THAT much harder to work with when it gets cold so I thought I’d let you in on my tips to transition into the cooler months. Below I have included some links to Autumn/ Briar inspired dresses.
When I was shopping on Black Friday, every office appropriate item I put on looked so boring, so I bought this amazing pink sequinned bag from Theory instead. My sister was visiting me from NZ so we went out for lunch and I just had to wear it.
LAYER A LITTLE BUT NOT TOO MUCH
Layering for colder month’s may seem obvious, however work fashion can get really fickly in winter – the temperatures in the office, tube and work all have you constantly taking items off/ putting them back on.
I think it’s important to invest in a good coat that you can wear many ways – this is definitely why I wear my Ted Baker coat more than any others. Coat with waist straps that can be tied behind you to keep the front open can be helpful when you are on the tube or it is a warmer day. Also, it’s a last minute opportunity to show off your outfit before you’re really wrapped up for the winter! You can then wear all your corporate work dresses or shirt/ skirt combos and don’t have to awkwardly take off a million layers when you arrive on client meetings. Keep it basic.
SWITCH PANTYHOSE FOR TIGHTS
It’s time to swap out your denier 15s and switch to the 70s! Again, this allows you to keep wearing your cute corporate dresses while keeping your legs warm.
SWAP STILETTOS FOR HEELED BOOTS
Let's face it, there is absolutely nothing worse than tiptoeing through puddles in heels and this is exactly why I like to wear heeled boots on my commute to the office. The leather boots I am wearing are favourites of mine from Aldo. I like the fact they are a simple style, with a slight heel that isn't too chunky.
If your office is corporate like mine, keep your heels either at the office or in a separate bag. As I am always lugging my laptop/ books etc around everywhere, I use my large Ted Baker tote (which you will see on my Instagram @briar_robyn). A bag from ShuSac is on my Christmas Wishlist as you can keep one tucked away in your handbag until you need to take your heels off – perfect for all the Christmas parties and client drinks.
CHOOSE DARK COLOURED NAILS
Swap out your pastel or bright colours for dark reds, browns and purples. Recently, I got a bright, shellac pink nail colour and instantly regretted my choice as they looked awful against my cold, red hands!
WRAP UP WITH SILK SCARVES AND SHAWLS
I don’t know about your office, but at times ours gets rather chilly! Put a shawl around your shoulders as it is comfier alternative to sitting at your desk in a blazer.
You would have seen on my Snapchat (briar_robyn) that I showed my sister around Brick Lane near Shoreditch. The scarf I’m wearing is from Beyond Retro which is a second- hand store I highly recommend. It is very cool, organised, has great brands and MANY neck scarves. This season I have been loving floral pink/ plum patterned and also geometric blue scarfs. At £3 they are a steal and add some excitement to an outfit, without being 'too winter' just yet.
WEAR AUTUMN COLOURS
Actually, scrap that – wear pink. The dress I am wearing is a rose pink, 3/4 sleeved slip from ASOS. Plum, wine and olive green are other office favourites of mine at the moment, with plum coloured clothes being a hot trend this season.
Flared, coloured dress trousers are high on my want list and after a whole week of shopping for them, I can’t find any styles that even look slightly great. Please let me know of any brands/ stores if you have seen some!
Below are some links to office dresses that I liked – hope you do to. What are your tips for transitioning your work wardrobe into the cooler months? Please leave a comment below.
